I've been meaning to write about this for half a year now, but just never got around to it. There's this absolutely excellent, yet little-known EP by the Polish band Masala Soundsystem. It's called Obywatele IV Swiata, which means citizens of the fourth world. It's not hard to guess that the fourth world is the ex-USSR.
The album is hard-hitting social rap set to Eastern motifs with a world music vibe, but they're upbeat, just like the flow itself.
The subject, understandably, is the theocracy of pseudo-Catholicism (the dominance of religion in society is a sore topic in Poland), the rule of the rotten Western world and its fake values, its siphoning of money, occupations, and other highly relevant stuff. Unfortunately, I don't know Polish at all, so all I can do is pick out familiar Slavic words. By the way, I generally don't like how Polish sounds in music, same as Latvian, but here is a rare case where it's the complete opposite.
